Support Voice Of Slum In Distributing Sanitary Pads

Feel free to ask Campaigner for a new update on this Fundraiser.

    Project

While menstruation is a reality that one cannot deny, so is the stigma around periods that affects millions of young girls and women in a country like India. They do not have access to sanitary napkins and other hygiene products. On an ordinary day, an adolescent girl might think twice about going out and purchasing a sanitary napkin.

The pandemic has worsened their condition

The National Family Health Survey estimates that of the 336 million menstruating women in India about 215 million women don’t have access to sanitary napkins. This has only been made worse by the pandemic.

The lockdowns left many women with no income or support. Especially those on the streets who would beg to earn a living. With no livelihood, lack of awareness about menstrual hygiene and not being able to access sanitary napkins, these women are left vulnerable to various diseases and menstrual infections - from cervical rare condition, Reproductive Tract Infections, Hepatitis B infection, various types of yeast infections to Urinary Tract Infections.

Voice of Slum wants to bring about a change - you can help

Founded by Dev Pratap Singh and Chandni Khan, Voice of Slum is a non-profit, youth-driven organization that is working relentlessly to transform the lives of slum kids of Noida. They take care of their education from the pre-primary level until they graduate, and also work hard to give them good opportunities so that they can break the shackles of poverty and become self-reliant. They have made a remarkable impact on the lives of thousands of children living in Noida’s slums. So far, they have changed the lives of 15,000 children.

They have also started a community kitchen where children from the slums of Noida can come and enjoy a hearty, healthy meal. Their efforts during the pandemic have been tremendous.

“I have grown up in the slums. After my father passed away suddenly, I started working as a rag picker when I was 7. Despite all the hardships, it was because of kind-hearted people that I could continue my education and dream of a much better future. Having seen so many hardships myself, I wanted to ensure that no other child from the slums suffers so much. Meeting Dev and starting Voice of Slum seemed like the exact thing I wanted to do,” Chandni, co-founder, Voice of Slum.
