"I saw my newborn son only 4 days after he was born, and the second I looked at him I broke down. He was so small and fragile, with a number of tubes on his body. It was heartbreaking to see, and in all of that, I couldn’t even hold him. For 15 days, I watched him from afar, praying that one day I would hold him in my arms… I will take him home," says Sneha Pawar as she holds back her tears thinking about the last month.
Sneha and her husband, Rahul, have had a tough month. It is never easy to watch your child suffer, especially when he is fighting for his life in the NICU. Their baby was born premature with very low birth weight, struggling to breathe, and with a heart defect. It's been an incredibly challenging time for the family, and they're doing their best to get their little one through this difficult journey.
With One Child Back Home, And A Newborn In The NICU, This Mother Is Devastated
Sneha was in her 7th month of pregnancy when she experienced severe stomach pain. Luckily, Rahul was with her, and she was rushed to a nearby hospital in the Satara district of Maharashtra. When the doctor told her that they would have to deliver her baby, she was shocked. Her pregnancy had been smooth sailing until then, and she never expected things to take a turn for the worse.
"I had a c-section, and as soon as our baby was born, they told us we needed to shift him to another hospital for better NICU care. It was four days before I could see him again, and it felt like the longest four days of my life."
Their baby was rushed to a hospital in Pune, where he received immediate care in the NICU. Today, his weight has increased, he’s breathing without oxygen support and is slowly getting better. But his fight is far from over.
"He still needs to stay in the NICU a little longer to completely recover and be healthy enough for us to take him home. My 11-year-old daughter, who is back home, keeps calling me and crying on the phone every day. The only thing she asks me is when we’re bringing her little brother home, and it makes me sad that I have no answer to give her."
With Your Support, The Little One Can Finally Go Home
Sneha and Rahul urgently need your support to continue the treatment for their newborn baby boy and bring him home. Rahul works in a private company and has borrowed from family members to fund the treatment, but it's still not enough. They require six lakhs to ensure their baby receives the necessary care.
