Contribute to Anna-Daan during Jagannath Puri Return Rath Yatra (Bahuda Yatra)

Banamali Das Welfare and Development foundation feeds devotees, vegetarian food, during the auspicious time of Rath Yatra every year. They have been doing this for the last 20 Years. This year, owing to the losses suffered during Cyclone Fani, the organization is facing a crisis carrying out this humanitarian endeavour.

Rath Yatra is an age-old Hindu festival observed primarily in Puri, Odisha; where the famous shrine of Lord Jagannath is located. Also known as the Car/Chariot festival, the grand spectacle of the temple deities being drawn in well decorated, colorful ceremonial chariots, attracts lakhs of people every year.

It is a deeply spiritual time of the year for many believers of the Hindu faith. The festival’s fame eventually spread to other cities, and even countries. More and more people observe this every year, but the one in Puri remains unmatched in terms of grandeur, and getting throngs of devotees from all across the globe.

Like many other Indian festivals, the Rath Yatra is also a time for piety and practicing charity to the less privileged. And, among the many many devotees who practice the same, are the trustees of the Banamali Das foundation from Puri, who have been offering food to people on this auspicious occasion for the past many years.

In the spirit of giving, they distribute vegetarian food and also freely give away copies of Bhagwad Gita to devotees. But this act of generosity is far more difficult to accomplish this year thanks to the damages they had to sustain during the cyclone Fani.

The Cyclone has depleted their resources, but it did little to dampen his spirit. Despite the cyclone’s impact, they still want to continue with this act of kindness this year too.
