Project
The pandemic has ravaged the country and has left millions of people without food and a regular source of income. They have been struggling to make ends meet in these tough times. But this is also the time when we have seen many people across the country who have been feeding the poor and the homeless out of their own pockets.
Devinder and Dimpy Talwar, a Punjabi couple, have been feeding around 800-1000 sadhus in Vrindavan with the help of other kind-hearted souls. They want to give these starving people a warm meal and a comfortable life. This is their story.
We started with just 20 meals but the response we got was overwhelming
“We have been watching the news and both Dimpy and I were aware of the plight of the poor in our country as the dangerous virus claimed innumerable lives. Dimpy and I wanted to do something for the sadhus in Vrindavan who mostly survive due to the kindness of the tourists and passers-by. The pandemic has stopped all tourism and these helpless sadhus have been starving,” - Devinder Talwar, Founder, Vrindavaneshwari Trust.
The couple started a feeding programme with just 20 meals and right now, they feed thousands of hungry sadhus. Devinder mentions how he sees a long queue as they start distributing the meals. The meals are all freshly cooked and contain rice, dal, sabji, roti and warm milk during the winters.
“It was humbling as well as worrying at the same moment. Even though it meant that we were on the right track, it also meant that we needed to go a long way to help many more in need.”
You can help the Talwars feed many more
Devinder, an industrialist by profession, has been using up his own savings to feed the sadhus in Vrindavan. Currently, they’re feeding around 1000 sadhus but the need is ever increasing. The Talwars through Vrindavaneshwari Trust want to help as many as they can and hence are requesting all of you to please come forward and donate.
“You can donate fruits, groceries, vehicles to carry out the distribution and we assure you that all of this will be put to good use. Even a small donation will make a difference.”
About the NGO: Founded by Devinder and Dimpy Talwar, three years back, Vrindavaneshwari Trust is working day and night to help feed thousands of hungry souls, take care of abandoned elderlies and injured and sick cows.
