Project Shakti: Help SRCC students distribute glucose water to outdoor workers on the streets of Delhi

We are trying to reach out to people whose professions or economic circumstances prevent them from getting respite from Delhi’s scorching heat. We have been able to reach out to several e-rickshaw drivers, roadside vendors, homeless individuals and construction workers and hope to expand our reach in these circles and beyond. 

Delhi has seen an unexpected rise in temperature and it is only going to get worse in the days ahead. Most of us sit in air-conditioned classrooms, private cars and homes, and yet when we step out, the heat feels unbearable. In such a scenario, one can only imagine how bad the state of those who stay out in the sun must be. 

Further, a lot of these people don’t even have access to proper sources of energy or nutrition, hampering their productivity and energy levels. Hence, we decided to get together and provide convenient and easy to consume energy sources like Glucose water to help those working outdoors beat the heat. 

We put a lot of thought into what we want to distribute. We definitely wanted to choose something that would act as a coolant during the heat but then after thinking further, we decided to distribute something that could also provide some form of energy and electrolytes. Hence, we chose Tata Glucose Plus, a ready to have glucose drink.

It will help the beneficiaries in multiple ways. It will act as a source of energy and help them feel more productive and energetic. More than anything else, we just think that relief from the terrible heat in Delhi, in the form of a small cool glass can give someone happiness and that happiness is more precious than anything!

About the Project:

Project Shakti was started by 6 students in SRCC. We started it 2 weeks ago. We have undertaken 3 distribution drives so far and distributed 200 glasses of Gluco+. As of this moment, we want to try and expand our reach and help as many people as we can through this one product. However, we hope to expand into more products and more target groups with time.
