Support Akhand Singh And Help Him Build A Safe Home For 300+ Disabled Kids In U.P.

In 2018, Akhand Pratap Singh founded the Unique Welfare Foundation (UWF) in Pratapgarh, Uttar Pradesh with a vision to transform the lives of those often overlooked – children with disabilities. Born in a small village in Uttar Pradesh, Akhand witnessed their pain up close. He also saw how lacking amenities and awareness added to their suffering. Driven by a deep sense of compassion and the desire to make a difference, he pursued a diploma course in NGO management from Lucknow University and later completed his MBA. Despite landing a job through campus placement, Akhand felt a calling to return to social service. 

“Each day is a struggle for them. They’re unable to do simple tasks on their own and are completely dependent on their families. Their confidence takes a severe hit because of this and soon, they treat themselves as a burden, just like everyone else around them,” - Akhand Pratap Singh, Founder, of Unique Welfare Foundation.  

He is on a mission to uplift the countless disabled children in rural India  

The plight of disabled children in rural India is Akhand’s driving force. Born to impoverished parents, these kids are unable to attend school due to the constant care they require. Many parents, struggling to make ends meet, find themselves in a challenging position – torn between caring for their disabled children and earning a livelihood. 

“It’s common to find these kids chained to the bed or locked in one room. Sometimes, they’re treated worse than animals. But you can hardly blame the parents for this…They are already struggling to feed the family, taking care of a disabled child is an added responsibility - one that they’re often ill-equipped to handle.” 

This is where the Unique Welfare Foundation comes in. They currently provide a lifeline for 40 children in and around the Pratapgarh district in Uttar Pradesh. These children have lost one or both parents, sometimes to alcoholism, while others are born to disabled parents with no one to care for them. The children too suffer from various kinds of disabilities - physical as well as intellectual - and struggle to survive. 

The foundation strives to rescue them from these desperate situations and offer them love, attention, and most importantly, a sense of self-worth. 

The children at UWF not only receive nutritious meals and education but also benefit from physiotherapy and counseling provided by a dedicated medical team. This holistic approach aims to empower them to believe in their potential and aspire to live normal, fulfilling lives.

“Currently, we have a daycare school, and every day, when we see these kids smiling and thriving, we feel a sense of joy and pride. But here’s the problem - they go back to their homes where they once again face torture and pain. We want to change that and build a safe home for all of them.” 

UWF has surveyed the nearby areas and has identified 300+ disabled kids in need of assistance. Their dream is to reach out to all those 300 children and many more.
