Angelin Is Dedicated To Looking After The Poor And Homeless In Chennai, You Can Help

Social work and helping people is something that comes naturally to Angelin Prince. Masters In Social Work and leprosy physiotherapy, Angelin has taken upon herself the responsibility to look after hundreds of homeless and abandoned souls struggling to survive on the streets of Chennai. 

“I started my organization, The Candles, way back in 2014. We not only care for the physical and mental health of the poor and the underprivileged but also feed them warm, nutritious meals. These are people who have no one in their lives, I feel a strange sense of duty towards them,” - Angelin Prince, Founder, The Candles.  

Angelin and her team are relentless in their efforts to help the people in need 

Angelin doesn’t give a second thought before using her own savings for the poor and needy. The Candles also gets small-time donations from good Samaritans on birthdays, anniversaries, etc, and the team would purchase food from hotels and deliver it to the ones in need. 

“We have also been cooking food for them with our love and affection and delivering them on our bikes. This is when we realized the need of dressing the wounds of the abandoned leprosy patients. We named this initiative ‘Wound Care On Wheels’, a mobile medical service where we would clean and dress their wounds twice a week.”

Apart from dressing their wounds, they also give them accurate health education, clothes, slippers, blankets, and other daily items. 

Not only this, Angelin and the team also teach slum children and give them groceries and health drinks to fight their malnourishment. 

Even during the pandemic, Angelin didn’t stop her efforts - she and her dedicated team of volunteers have done everything in their power to help these downtrodden people by giving them food and the basic necessities. 

But now she needs your help 

The winters are about to set in and Angelin wants to help as many people as she can. She has decided to feed 600 people and also give groceries which will help them sustain for a longer period of time. She also wants to help the slum children with 200 school bags as their schools are reopening after the lockdown. 

Despite her best efforts, she is unable to do all this on her own. Your support will make a huge difference.

About the NGO: Started by Angelin Prince in 2014, a social worker and a physiotherapist, The Candles is dedicated to making a difference in the lives of the poor and the underprivileged in the streets of Chennai.
