Project
Amit Kumar Banerjee was only a student when he started reporting for a local newspaper called Bankura Sanbad in West Bengal. Little did he know that one story would change his life completely - the story of a mother who sold her child to a brothel for a few rupees and a few kgs of rice. Amit Kumar was heartbroken. He couldn’t stop thinking about the child and everything that she will have to go through. He then decided that he would dedicate his life for the betterment of orphaned and needy children. It’s been over 31 years since, and Amit Kumar has changed the lives of hundreds of orphaned children through SAMPARC - Social Action for Manpower Creation.
SAMPARC Continues To Help Children All Over IndiaAmit Kumar Banerjee and his colleague, Mrs. Lata Pande started SAMPARC in1990 in Lonavala. They began with the aim to give orphaned children a safe home where their nutritional, educational, health and overall developmental needs would be taken care of. What started with just 7 children, SAMPARC now takes care of over 650+ children all over India. With four children’s homes in Maharashtra, one in West Bengal and one in Rajasthan, SAMPARC is helping hundreds of children every day.
They take in children who have been orphaned, children of s*x workers, convicts or those from extremely poor backgrounds. Regardless of where they come from, all these children find a home at SAMPARC where they get the opportunity to have a better life.Amit Kumar always says, “These children should not be known as children of s*x workers or juvenile delinquents, they should have their own identity. They should be able to live a life of dignity and independence. That’s what we want for them.”
The Pandemic Has Left Them With No SupportWhile SAMPARC continues to take care of their children despite the devastating effects of the Covid-19 pandemic, they face several challenges today. Without the regular support and funds they used to get, they’re now struggling to take care of their children and have had to put their ground activities on hold. Today, they can barely meet even the basic requirements of hundreds of children. These children who have already been through so much pain, are once again left with uncertainty due to the pandemic. SAMPARC now needs your help to care for them.
How You Can HelpAmit Kumar now needs help to get groceries and other essentials like toiletries for 290 orphaned and needy children in Pune and Raigad in Maharashtra. With these grocery kits, SAMPARC will be able to feed these children fresh and healthy meals every day.
The children at SAMPARC need you the most right now. They have no one else to lean on, and your every contribution will make a huge difference to their lives. Because of you, they can have a better future.About the NGO:Started in 1990, SAMPARC - Social Action for Manpower Creation is home to hundreds of orphaned and needy children in India.
