Help Shri Shyam Rasoi Provide Nutritious Meals To The Hungry

Poverty is by no means a small issue in a country like India where lakhs suffer every day to make ends meet with many people resorting to skipping one meal a day because they can’t afford to eat. With the ongoing pandemic, many daily wage labourers have been stripped of jobs, making it harder for them to be able to afford basic necessities and food.

This is where a good samaritan, Mr Pravin Kumar Goyal wishes to step up to the task. His goal is to ensure that no one goes to bed hungry and he does this through his Shri Shyam Rasoi where he provides a full thali at the cost of Re. 1 per plate in Bhooto Wali Gali, Nangloi. 

Those who come can eat their fill of an unlimited amount of healthy, fresh nutritious food and the only rule is that they must not waste any of it.  

He runs the eatery with a staff of 6 whom he pays Rs. 300- 400 per day, in a space that is lent to him free of cost by a local businessman Mr Ranjit Singh. When he started the eatery, he started by charging Rs. 10 per plate but he reduced the price further when he found out that many of his customers couldn’t afford to pay that amount either. It is not an uncommon sight to see those who can’t afford that one rupee is fed anyway, or even see people bring their tiffins to take back food for their families.

So far, since the 4 months that they have been active, they have fed over 1200 - 1500 people in Delhi daily. They have even expanded to providing a parcel service through e-rickshaws which deliver food to neighbouring areas like Inderlok, Sai Mandir etc. 

Shri Shyam Rasoi runs through donations either in kind or monetary and lately. With the consistent increase in the need for more food, he needs all the help he can get.
