Thousands In Bangalore Slums Are Struggling To Survive Amidst The Floods, They Need Urgent Help

Feel free to ask Campaigner for a new update on this Fundraiser.

    Project

India’s Silicon Valley, home to several IT firms has been inundated for the last few days after the city experienced severe rainfall. Schools and colleges have been shut down and normal life has been disrupted to a great extent. Several offices have also asked their employees to work from home till things get better.

But the worst affected in this crisis situation are the thousands of families in the slums of Bangalore. Their houses are submerged and they have no access to food or clean drinking water. With families and kids, these daily wage labourers are in need of urgent support.

The situation is dire - urgent help is the need of the hour

Rainwater was more than 3 feet deep in the railway underbridges at Majestic, Okalipuram, and Kasturinagar. The floodgates opened into places like Avenue Road, BVK Iyengar Road, KG Road, and Dietyjinagar.

Several other places were under water too. Whitefield, Gottigere, Bannerghatta Road, Vijayanagar, Rajajinagar, Basaveshwar Nagar, Yeshwantpur, Peenya, Laggere, Nandini Layout, Malleswaram, Seshadripuram, Hebbal, Sanjaynagar, RT Nagar, Nagawara, Hennur, Banaswadi, RR Nagar, Kengeri, Deepanjali Nagar are among the other areas which have been affected by the rains. Areas near Bellandur, Sarjapura, Marathahalli have also been badly affected. Water shortage and power outages have been a constant.

Severely affected by the heavy rains are the slums near Munekolalu and Bellandur, affecting over 1,500 families. Even in August, the Pourakarmika settlement in Brookefield, Doddanekkundi was inundated after heavy rains pound the city, rendering hundreds homeless. Most of the residents of the slums are people who do odd jobs to support their families. With life coming to a standstill in the city and their houses being underwater - they’re struggling to make ends meet.

Donatekart with Amazon's support have joined hands to help hundreds in need in Bangalore

While the news channels and social media continue to report the damages that have happened due to this unprecedented rainfall, Donatekart with Amazon's support have come together to help hundreds of underprivileged individuals in the slums of Bangalore.

This is not the first time that they have joined hands to save lives and create an impact. During the dangerous Assam floods, Donatekart and Amazon have been able to distribute 840 kits to families in need.

Now, along with their on-ground partner, Robinhood Army, Donatekart with logistical support from Amazon want to help around 850 slums where there are hundreds of residents suffering without basic amenities.

The Robin Hood Army is a volunteer-based, zero-funds organization that works to get surplus food from restaurants and the community to serve less fortunate people. They serve homeless families, orphanages, patients from public hospitals, and old age homes. Their volunteer or ‘Robins’ as they are called, are largely students and young working professionals – everyone does this in their free time.

“These people have spent their entire lives building what they had and now all of that is damaged. They’re struggling to feed their kids - it’s painful to see them suffer like this. We want to give them a basic grocery kit comprising atta, dal, rice, salt, and oil. We want to help as many people as we can. Please come forward and support us,” - Member of Robinhood Army.

Your kind donations can save hundreds of people suffering in the Bangalore floods. This is your chance to make a difference.
