Whether it’s the blistering heat or severe rain, nothing comes in Nandhini’s way of helping stray dogs. She walks long distances every day to feed over 40+ dogs, and if there’s a dog in need in Chennai, Nadhini is there for them. A loving, selfless and caring person, Nadhini has been a guardian angel for countless dogs in the past 35 years.
“My parents and grandparents loved animals, and I grew up watching them helping so many in need. I’ve seen dogs that have been severely injured or are challenged, trying their best to survive on the streets. I’ve seen them cry out in pain or walk around for hours looking for a little bit of food. I’ve seen hundreds of people walk past these helpless dogs, without bothering to even give them a second glance. There’s so much pain in their lives, I wanted to do my bit to reduce even a little bit of this suffering.” - Nandhini SV
Nandhini quit her job as a medical transcriptionist in 2014 and dedicated her life to looking after stray dogs. She hasn’t looked back since.
She Does The Best She Can For Her Babies, But She’s Struggling
It all began with one helpless dog who Nadhini took in. Today, she has 45+ dogs living with her, many of whom have spinal injuries and are challenged. While these dogs are her children, her whole world, Nandhini has to overcome several challenges to look after them.
“I live in a small space, and because many of the dogs can’t control their stools or urine, I spend a considerable amount of time cleaning after them. The house also gets messy and smelly because of this. I want to give them the best medical care, but getting to the hospital is a big challenge. The government hospital is very far and auto fares are very high - I just can’t afford it.”
Nandhini does the best she can for her babies. She takes them to a private hospital to save on the cost of travel, but this is not affordable anymore either.

Nandhini wants to ensure that no dog ever dies of hunger, but she needs your support to do this.
“I use almost 10 kgs of rice every day, and now it’s becoming increasingly difficult to continue feeding them without help. Since many of them are challenged, I also need underpads to ensure that they're comfortable. Food and medicines for them are of utmost importance, but I also need help to get an ambulance. With this, I will be able to get them timely treatment and also reach out to so many more dogs around Chennai.”
