Polio Couldn't Dampen The Spirit Of M.M. Chacko Who Has Built A Home For Thousands In Need

Feel free to ask Campaigner for a new update on this Fundraiser.

    Project

“People avoid them, behave as if they’re wild animals, don’t give them food or any sort of help. More often than not, they suffer from mental health issues or some other physical disabilities. But with no one to take care of them and even their families having abandoned them, they die a painful death on the roads. We want to be a ray of hope for all those who have no one for them. The old, the challenged, the ones almost on the death-bed - we are a home for them all,” -  Late M.M. Chacko, Founder.

At the age of 5, he lost the function of 75% of his body but Late MM Chacko didn’t lose hope

In an unfortunate turn of events, Late  M. M. Chacko got infected with polio when he was only 5 and lost the function of 75% of his body. However, he was not someone who would cower down to the discomforts of his life. His indomitable spirit and constant support from his family helped him and finally, New Malabar Punanradhivasa Kendra Charitable Trust (NMPC) came into existence in 2003 in Malpacherry, Kasargod, Kerala. In the last 18 years, this has been the safe haven of more than 1800 people. Currently, they have over 115 residents including men and women.

“I have been fortunate enough to have my family and loved ones around me even in hours of distress. But there are so many who don’t have a roof over their heads and no food for days. I have seen them rummaging through the garbage in search of a morsel of food. Their entire body is covered in dirt and maggots. I wanted to do something for them, this is my humble attempt.”

NMPC has been working tirelessly to serve the different sections of society who need help and support. They have reunited over 200 people with their families and have taken care of orphans and abandoned elderlies as well. They have also been working to eradicate alcohol abuse. NMPC is also a place which welcomes patients with physical and mental disabilities with open arms. They also have the caregivers of these patients.

Your help will make a difference

MM Chacko’s determination to help all those in need has been acknowledged far and wide and his organisation has received multiple awards. But always humble, M.M. Chacko believed that the best award is the content smile of his residents and their well-being.

They have started the construction of new blocks for NMPC trust. But due to shortage of resources, the construction had to be stopped mid-way. They also want to build a physiotherapy centre for the residents and as well as make some repairs in the existing building. They’re trying their best but this dream project will come true only if all of you come forward and donate construction materials.

“We are there for everyone who has no place to go or no one to take care of. A home away from home, we want to give our residents the best of everything. With your help, we can reach out to so many people - please support us.”
