Project

Every now and then we see so many stray dogs searching for food, panting due to heat, drinking dirty water, fighting over the thrown over bones. All we can do is show some kindness to these animals by providing them with a daily source of food. Out of the multiple organisations in the country that are dealing with animal welfare, No Dog a Street Dog (NDSD) is one of them.

NDSD is a charity that was founded by Kunwar Bhatia and Ashmita Mehta during one of the cold Delhi winters in the year 2014. What started off with a small initiative of providing rice chicken meal to 16 dogs only soon turned into something much bigger. It wasn't even 15 days when Ashmita and Kunwar saw their first distemper virus case,by that time they knew just feeding won't be enough.

Taking care of the strays

So far they have been taking care of more than 250 dogs, cats and other animals in New Delhi daily. Feeding, sterilisation, and vaccinations are taken care of by NDSD. Till date, around 170 dogs have been sterilised and vaccinations have also been routinely done. They also look after injured dogs and give them the necessary medication. They have a shelter for the aged and physically challenged as well. NDSD aims to provide a stress free zone for stray animals without any insecurity towards meals being provided to them.

We didn't even know that time would make us such avid animal lovers.  Within a year, we were feeding 100 dogs daily, out of which 83 were vaccinated and sterilised in the same year. We have taken up midnight cases - from spinal injuries to accidental cases - and made sure to get the best available treatment. We want these animals to have a better life,” - Ashmita Mehta, Founder.

Their work during the pandemic

NDSD has been working continuously during the pandemic to feed and take care of stray animals and increase the number of feeding points during lockdown. They have tried their best to reach out to as many strays as possible every day .

The pandemic has resulted in a lot of financial crises for the organisation. With almost 80 + dogs being added to the feeding grounds and providing critical care to 7 spinal injury dogs for almost 4/5 months, they are now not in a position to continue their noble work.

That’s why we need your help. With your support, we would be able to feed many more hungry and injured animals - they have no one but us. I request you to please think about these innocent souls and donate generously.”

No Dog A Street Dog needs your help to get dog food and feed hundreds of injured and abandoned strays. Donate to make a difference.
