Mother Fights For Daughter's Life, Fears Losing Another Child

Last month, when Sandhya had her period, she was bleeding a lot more than usual. Thinking it would get under control in a day or two, the family waited. But the blood kept gushing as if her body was trying to drain every ounce of blood in her body. She became pale, weak and lost consciousness.
“We rushed her to the nearest hospital, where they said that her blood has come down to 3 points and saving her was beyond their means. While taking her to a bigger hospital, I kept praying the entire way, fearing losing my child. Just when we got the news that she is recovering, we also got the news that shook us all to the core. She has cancer.” - Gauri Devi, mother
This mother lost her child once
Gauri was 7 months pregnant when a fire broke out near their house. She panicked at the loud noises and her heart just couldn’t take it. She tripped and fell, and with the impact, she lost her baby.
“I have had heart issues since, and when I heard that Sandhya has Cancer, I lost my senses and fainted. I live in fear that I’ll lose Sandhya too.”
Sandhya is suffering from Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia, a type of blood cancer. She needs chemotherapy and Bone Marrow Transplant to survive.
A promise she fears she can’t keep
“Sandhya knows she is sick, but doesn’t understand how severe it is. She keeps asking if she’ll get better and when we can go home. I keep giving her assurance that everything will be okay soon, but I fear that I am making fake promises. I don’t even know how we are going to manage today, let alone the entire treatment that will cost us in lakhs.” - Gauri, mother
The treatment will cost them – 40 lakh rupees, which this poor family cannot afford.
Father is a waiter, can’t afford the cure
Sandhya’s father is a waiter who earns 10,000 rupees a month, which in itself is difficult to sustain a family of six. Gauri is a homemaker. Affording the treatment is beyond their means. They are in desperate need, and only you can help.
“Sandhya was such a cheerful girl who greeted everyone with joy. She was very active and loved going to the school, but within just a few weeks, her life has completely changed. She is weak, frail and unable to even sit without help. My only wish is to see my child full of life like before, healthy and happy. Please help us!” - Gauri, mother
