12-Year-Old With Giant Head Needs Urgent Help To Live A Normal Life

“She was barely 5 months old when her head started getting bigger. It’s been 12 years now, and every day we see her head getting bigger than before. My little girl must be going through so much pain as she cries endlessly, unable to sleep peacefully even for a few minutes. She can’t talk, eat or walk properly. A lump on her back, as big as a grown man’s hand

“Everyone in our family was super excited to welcome a new family member- our firstborn. When Palak was born, we were excited to go home and start our new journey, make endless memories–but our happiness didn’t last long.” -Mukesh, father

The parents noticed a small lump on the baby’s back. Doctors told them that it would go away on its own, but instead, it kept growing bigger. Within just 3 months, the little girl had a lump as big as a grown man’s hand.

Palak was diagnosed with Hydrocephalus,  a neurological disorder caused by an abnormal buildup of fluid in the cavities deep within the brain. This excess fluid causes the ventricles to enlarge, resulting in harmful pressure on the brain's tissues.

“When we heard she needed another surgery, that too in the brain, we were scared to death that we would lose her, and we took her back home. But within a few weeks, her head started to get bigger and we rushed her to the hospital again. But when they told us the cost, we knew we could never afford it; it was beyond our means.” -Mukesh, father

“My daughter is 12, but she can’t speak more than two words or understand things that other children of her age do. She has been bedridden for forever now and knows nothing beyond these four walls. My husband and I are both daily labourers. We are barely able to manage the expenses at home, let alone a surgery this big. We desperately need help to save our son and afford this treatment. Our only wish is to see our daughter have a normal life, talk to us, play around, or merely just consume food without pain. This surgery can make it happen.” -Priyanka, mother
