6-Year-Old Suffers Severe Brain Injury After Football Net Collapses In A Horrific Playground Accident
Feel free to ask Campaigner for a new update on this Fundraiser.
Project
“One minute, he was chasing the football. Next, his friends saw him covered in blood…a 7-foot heavy metal goalpost suddenly collapsed and came crashing down on Angat’s head mid-game. The screams of children and the sight of blood pooling under his small body gathered the crowd.” - Gautam, his father
On 27th April, 6-year-old Angat was rushed to the hospital with severe head trauma and was bleeding from his skull.
At that moment, his father, Gautam, was standing in a ration queue when he received a call that no parent should ever have to take.
“Your son has had a terrible accident. Come to the hospital. It’s serious.”
What followed has been every parent’s worst nightmare.
His brain injury is so critical that for 8 long days, he didn’t open his eyes
The doctors diagnosed him with Subdural Hemorrhage (SDH), Subarachnoid Hemorrhage (SAH), and cerebral edema, but all of these terms meant nothing to his family except one thing: that his life is in grave danger.
It’s been 4 weeks today, and Angat is still in the ICU and on a ventilator. His little body had a seizure just last night.
The doctors still can’t confirm if Angat recognizes his parents
“When he opened his eyes after 8 days, we thought God heard us. He looked around frantically, trying to speak. But he couldn’t. There was a tube in his neck to help him breathe. He just stared at me. I don’t know if he recognized me.” - Suman, mother
His 4-year-old younger brother is getting restless for not being allowed to meet his bhaiya
When he cried for his brother, Suman showed him a picture of Angat in the ICU. The boy froze. Since then he’s been scared to ask again and just keeps crying.
A daily-wage family with a Rs.13.5 Lakh medical bill
Gautam earns Rs.7,000 a month as a construction labourer only if he finds work each day. Suman earns Rs.3,000 by dropping and picking up school children. Since Angat’s accident, neither of them have gone to work.
They’ve already spent over Rs.4 lakhs on bills by borrowing, begging, and selling every little thing they owned.
Now, they are told Angat needs Rs.13.5 lakhs more to continue ICU care, ventilator support, and critical medicines.
He was a happy, healthy child just 4 weeks ago. A child who did nothing but go out to play football. Today, he lies in a hospital bed, surrounded by machines, fighting for every breath. And his parents are exhausted, broken, desperate, and are watching their world fall apart with every passing day.
They may lose him not because of fate, but because they can’t afford to keep him alive.
