Help 7-year-old Lisa win her battle against a deadly blood cancer
“She is 7…an age where she can feel all the pain but not understand why she has to go through it. Needles after needles. She looks at me, hoping that I will stop the nurse from pricking her. When she sees me standing idly next to her, she becomes so confused and starts crying. It breaks my heart. Why did my only child have to get cancer? Why her?” Sunita, little Lisa’s mother, breaks into a sob
In a small village four hours from Ludhiana, Sunita and Sukhdev lived a content life with their only child, Lisa. All of Sunita’s prayers were for Lisa’s well-being. All of Sukhdev’s free time was for his little daughter. But four months ago, their life turned upside down.
A perfectly healthy 7-year-old Lisa was suddenly diagnosed with a deadly blood cancer
“Everything was good…she was eating well, sleeping well. We took her to the doctor only because her neck was swollen. We thought they would give us some medicine, and we could go back home and continue living our lives as always. But, out of nowhere, we were told that she was battling blood cancer! We couldn’t take it…” - Sukhdev, father
Since that day four months ago, Sukhdev and Sunita have been shuttling between hospitals with Lisa, looking for a cure that could free her from the clutches of this disease.
Scarred by pain and fear, Lisa is no longer the lively little girl her parents knew
Wailing and protesting, Lisa has undergone chemotherapy to stabilize her condition. She tries to play, but her weakness doesn’t let her. She can barely stand on her feet.
“She wants to go to school, see her friends. But she can’t. The only time she steps out of our house is when we take her on a 4-hour journey to the hospital. A 7-year-old’s life is not supposed to be like this. She doesn’t want to grow up to be a doctor anymore…she says doctors prick children…she doesn’t want to do that…” Sunita breaks down.
Now, little Lisa waits for a bone marrow transplant that can give her back her childhood
The only cure for Lisa’s T-Cell Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia is an urgent bone marrow transplant followed by prolonged treatment to ensure she is completely cured. But the cost of her treatment amounts to twenty lakh rupees, and the parents are helpless.
Sukhdev used to earn Rs. 300/day; now he doesn’t earn even that
Having to care for his wife and daughter, and frequently making trips to the hospital in Ludhiana, Sukhdev, a daily-wage labourer, has been unable to work for four months now. With no income and their savings exhausted, they are in desperate need of your help to save their only child.
“We are surviving on one meal a day. Sometimes, we don’t even have that. My husband is heartbroken. He is unable to do anything about the transplant. She is our everything…please help us save her. She is just 7 years old!” Sunita pleads with folded hands
With a little help from you, 7-year-old Lisa can live a pain-free life. Contribute now and help her defeat her cancer.
