A 9 Days Old Baby and She Already Needs a Lifesaver. Will It Be You?
"All I want is to take my baby home, hug her without wires, and hear her cry from hunger rather than pain." - Mehak, Somya's mother
Nine days ago, in a little hospital in Haridwar, a tiny girl named Somya was born. She was born two months early through emergency C-section, weighing less than the palm of a hand and letting out the lightest sound. One that carried the dreams of her young parents, Mehak and Rajesh. Somya is only 9 days old, and she's already fighting for her life.
She was born with several difficulties, including PRETERM (premature birth), PPHN (persistent pulmonary hypertension), RDS (respiratory distress syndrome), and LBW (low birth weight). Her X-ray also showed a small hole in her heart. She has been in the NICU incubator ever since, receiving daily medical care and oxygen assistance. She showed signs of improvement, since she was previously unable to breathe on her own but can now do it for brief periods of time without oxygen. It's a step forward, but her chances of survival remain uncertain. Doctors said that she would require at least one month in the NICU, and that without further care and maybe an operation, her chances of survival will be substantially reduced. The procedure costs ₹5,00,000.
Somya's mother Mehak is 22 years old, and her father Rajesh is 25. He works as a cook in a small village kitchen in Haridwar. They have no insurance, no family to rely on, and no remaining savings. This is their second child, and their older daughter is only 1.5 years old. They have already spent what little they had. Their employer contributed ₹40,000. They have collected ₹50,000, but require an additional ₹4.5 lakhs. During this difficult period, they are getting by on borrowed money for food and stay.
Rajesh is working extra time, trying everything he can to keep his baby alive. Mehak, both emotionally and physically tired, sits in front of her daughter's incubator every day, asking for one more breath, one more day. They are heartbroken but will not give up.
Somya will require continuous care in the next weeks, as well as a possible heart operation. Without this, there are slim chances of her survival. They can't do it alone, but with your support, they won't have to.
Your contribution, no matter how little, may help this newborn girl breathe and give her a chance to live. A chance to be home. An opportunity to one day run into her father's arms and say "Papa." Help Somya get the medical treatment she requires. Support Mehak and Rajesh in bringing their daughter home. Together, we can give this little one her first real chance at life.
