What if you were different? No, not as in, “we’re all unique”, but what if you were looked at specifically wherever you went? What if you had to grow up around people who would always question the way you spoke, walked, or behaved? Difficult to imagine, right?

This is what it feels like to live in the shoes of a transgender. Whether it’s a trans man or a transwoman, they’ve always had a few sets of eyes on them wherever they went. Many times, they’re not given jobs because of their gender and how others might perceive them.

“Gender cannot determine how much you can succeed. Gender is after all, just gender.”, said Lakshmi Narayan Tripathi, a transgender activist.

Men, women, trans-men,trans-woman and any other orientation out there, you’re capable of doing anything, and everything. This year, for the first time in history, a team of 25 transgenders are attempting to climb Mt. Friendship.

Mt. Friendship is a 5290m peak just near Manali. The temperatures, the landscape, the atmosphere and the journey itself can be exhilarating and challenging. This group of transgenders have been training for over months to attempt this feat.

While we live in the toughest times of the year, these incredible groups of individuals are making their mark in history. As part of Project Josh, this group will embark on this journey on October 2nd, 2020 and make their way up this mountain.

Transgenders have always had less or no access to resources, finances, and jobs.

Today, while they’re challenging themselves and everyone who’s ever questioned their ability, they’re rewriting history.

They need all the help they can get. This mountain trek cannot be done without proper gear or equipment. They need jackets to help shield themselves against the cold, ropes, shoes to protect their feet, bags to carry their equipment and so much more.

Lakshmi Narayan Tripathi and Kineer Services are supporting these individuals in their mission. We urge you to come forward and help them in their attempt to not only make history, but to make their way into the Guinness Book of World Records.

We at Kineer believe that our community has gaps where the Hijras can fit perfectly. For example at India it is considered unsafe for a girl/ lady to travel by a cab/taxi alone. Our question is why the cabs of the leading taxi service companies can’t be operated by the members of the third gender. This would not only eradicate the concern of safety for women travelers but would also provide a dignified employment opportunity for the Hijra.
