JENY LEON LOPEZ- Animal rights activists understand that animals can’t protect themselves from human greed. They don’t have the tools or voices to achieve their liberation from labs and farms. Consequently, humans have to speak for them.And, Jeny Leon Lopez is one such animal activist, walking the talk in every sense of the term. It’s been 25 years, that she has been fighting a battle from the front, mostly alone, to alleviate the sufferings of both animals and human beings.

She has tirelessly pursued to rescue and fight for the rights of the animals be it wild animals or zoo animals or working animals or pet animals or even stray animals.

A resident of Bangalore for almost three decades she has been an activist, fighting for animal rights, funding it from her salary earnings. She also regularly funds the education of orphan girls and prisoners serving life terms. As if this wasn’t enough for her, she has reached out to alcoholics and substance addicts and helped them combat abuse and taught them new skills and made them financially independent. Currently, she feeds 200 plus stray dogs and some abandoned cows and horses, in and around her place in South Bangalore, India.

She continued to strive to influence citizens towards being more kind and compassionate as every creature around us has the right to live just as we do. Now that she is employed again and managing a full-fledged job, she uses up her entire earnings to help, care and rescue animals as much as she can.

She has also planted more than 1 lakh trees in the past 20 years. In her present residential layout, she has planted 43 trees 17 years ago, which constitute today a green space for more than 6 varieties of migratory birds and many monkeys.

If she can do so much as an individual, without any clout, funding, ancestral inheritance, with zero backing from the power corridors, with only her salary to fall back upon with zero support from parents, then imagine how much more she could do with the right support!
