Support Gori’s Efforts In Educating Elderly Women And Helping Them Earn A Living

“I’ve seen pain, poverty, and hunger growing up. I’ve seen elders being thrown out of their homes, women being left with nothing and having no means to earn a livelihood… Unfortunately, all of this still exists around us. Eight years ago I decided to start the Ideal Women Welfare Society to help uplift and empower women. And there’s been no looking back. If my actions can bring a little bit of happiness into the lives of these elderly women, then I’m on the right path.” - Gori Singh, Founder, Ideal Women Welfare Society



Gori strongly believes that education and training in various skills will go a long way in helping these women stand on their feet again. The ashram sees many elderly women, abandoned women, and any woman who needs support coming to them for solace.



They’re Educating and Empowering Hundreds Of Elderly Women

Ideal Women Welfare Society in Varanasi was started with the aim to educate, train and care for elderly women so that they become self-sufficient. Here, they not only learn to read and write, but also get access to essentials and are trained in various skilled activities like stitching, mehndi, waste material artwork and much more.



“These elderly women are very interested in learning, even at their age. It’s heartwarming to see them study and learn new skills with so much interest. There are those that come here not knowing how to tell the time or even say their own address. I believe every woman should be educated and empowered. At a time when they have no family support or have no option but to look after their families, we lend them a helping hand.”

At any given point, there are a minimum of 35 people at their ashram who have nowhere else to go. Ideal Women Welfare Society also organizes awareness camps to make women aware of their fundamental rights. They also distribute blankets, saris, sweaters and more to women and children from time to time.

Despite The Pain, They Also Found Hope During The Pandemic

“I get goosebumps every time I think about what all these women went through during the pandemic. It was initially very difficult for us to continue supporting them, but there were so many kind souls who came forward to help. Someone would give rice, and someone else would give us atta and so on. Now we need help once again to continue supporting these elderly women. They can barely afford the basic essentials on their own.”
