Stone Miners Risk Their Lives for Just Re 1, Help Rana Restore Their Dignity

    Project

In the heart of Rajasthan lies Budhpura - a village that is soaked in pain, loss and unpaid labour. This is a ' village of widows.’ Almost every home here has a story of a husband lost too soon - to sil!cosis and collapsing mines. When the men die due to unlivable working conditions, the weight of survival falls onto their widows and children.

“I have daughters…one of them is disabled. I can’t make ends meet with the Rs.1.50 I get per stone. So I bring my children to the mines. I know I’m stealing their childhood, but what choice do I have?”- a widow

The dust from the stones scars the lungs forever and worst of all - it has no cure

I’m unfit to work…the disease has eaten me from inside. But I’m drowning in debt. If I don’t work, we don’t eat.” - Gita, another widow suffering from sil!cosis that is slowly killing her.

The story of Budhpura is not an isolated one but echoes across the mineral-rich lands of Rajasthan. Mining is the only source of income but it’s also a death sentence. Children here are too weak from malnutrition and tobacco addiction. They are pulled into the same mines that took their fathers. Their futures are crushed under the same stones they lift every day.

We don’t have a voice. But even when we do, nobody listens.”- Vishnu, a mine worker

Rana is working for lives that deserve more than Rs.1.50 per stone

In Rajasthan’s mines, workers earn just Rs. 1.50 per stone—risking their lives for almost nothing. Rana, who grew up around mines, was devastated when he saw their suffering. “It felt like watching people walk into their graves,” he says. Through the Mine Labour Protection Campaign Trust (MLPC), he now supports over 7,000 silicosis-affected miners with oxygen banks, ambulances, and telemedicine. He’s helping widows start small businesses and pushing for basic rights like restrooms and daycare at mines. For Rana, it’s about dignity—for lives worth far more than a rupee.

Your support is going to make a real difference

I want these people to live with dignity and their children dream beyond these mines because no child should inherit a life of debt and disease.” - Rana says with conviction

Today, Rana is raising funds not for a cause, but for human lives. Lives buried in dust, silicosis, and silence. Lives that deserve to go to school, breathe clean air, and live without fear.

About The NGO: MLPC advocates for the rights and safety of mine workers while promoting sustainable, dignified livelihoods. They support miners, silicosis victims, and widows through training, financial aid, and green livelihood options like goat farming, solar mills, and mushroom cultivation. MLPC works with governments to ensure transparent mining practices, promote digital oversight like E-Rawana permits, and push for sustainable mining reforms.
