After a Coma Changed His Life, Haresh Now Feeds the Hungry Every Single Day
Project
When he was 47, Haresh Gogri suffered a massive heart attack and went into a c0ma. Doctors said there was no way he could survive. But despite all odds, he woke up one day. And when he was miraculously blessed with this second chance at life, he decided he would be the miracle that would change several lives. Today, he is the reason that many old and helpless people don’t go to bed hungry anymore.
He decided his second chance at life would be all about seva
As soon as he became stable, Haresh set out to find his purpose. He was convinced he wasn’t spared to just carry on with his life as was. He came across some elderly women, all living by themselves in cramped, dingy spaces, with barely any food. They had no family, no jobs and no one who could save them from their difficult lives. And just like that, he found his purpose.
“If I gave them money, it would be a one-off thing. If I gave them groceries, it’s not like they would be able to cook for themselves in their condition. I realized what they needed the most was home-cooked food that would make their lives more bearable. And that was the start of our Tiffin Seva.” - Haresh Gogri, founder, K V Charitable Trust
He started the Seva at 48, and now, at 62, he has no plans of stopping
Haresh Gogri started his Tiffin Seva in 2011. Every morning, he himself went and delivered tiffin carriers to the old and helpless. Six chapatis, a sabzi to go with it, and a sweet on special days — this was the menu. What started off as a feeding program for just 11 people, went on to become K V Charitable Trust, an organization focused on feeding the needy every day.
“I have never felt more at peace with my life. This Trust has become my identity, my sole purpose. In the mornings, I deliver food. In the evenings, I distribute the remaining food to the children in slums. There’s no greater joy than feeding the hungry.” - Haresh Gogri
A son to many, and father to some, Haresh has impacted several lives
Lakshmi Amma who said she was all alone in this world now calls Haresh her son. Devraj Kadam, who lost his leg to infection and lost his job, is grateful to Haresh for the nutritious food his family receives every day. Praveena, who lost everything to a financial crisis, now works in the Trust’s kitchen and can send her children to school. Several people like them have benefited and continue to benefit from K V Charitable Trust’s Tiffin Seva. But now, they need your support.
Haresh needs your help to continue his mission
Haresh and his team spend over 2 lakh rupees a month on the Tiffin Seva, for 75 people. The cost for every tiffin is 120 rupees. With just 3,600, he can feed one hungry person for an entire month, but he is unable to bear the expenses all by himself. A little support from you can help him with the essential groceries.
“When you commit to feeding someone, you can’t suddenly stop one fine day. It’s the cruelest thing to do. And I don’t ever want to do that. Together, we can make a difference. Please contribute.” - Haresh
