Project
“Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world,” said NelsonMandela, South African anti-apartheid revolutionary and former President of South Africa.
Gavaksh was founded in 2015 and is registered under the Society Act. Our objective is to empower the less privileged children of society with knowledge beyond formal education. To impart knowledge and create a unique learning experience for those who live with comparatively lesser means.
“I have had my own share of struggles in reaching where I am today. Motivated by my own life experiences, I decided to create a platform for children to help them become self-sufficient, enabling them to shape their lives as per their choice,” says Archana, Founder, Gavaksh.
GavaKsh is popularly known as a ‘Roshandan’ in Hindi or ‘Fenestration’ in the architecture of a building is an opening in a room to allow natural light. We at GavaKsh would like to play the part of that window to bring an abundance of opportunities in the lives of underprivileged children. Our programs are designed to open new horizons for these children to prosper and be empowered to build their future.
Vision:
To curate, a world where social and economic equality prevails and no child is denied the basic right to knowledge. We envision a world where a child’s economic background is not a determinant of their learning opportunities. Our vision is to provide a platform for children to freely explore their capabilities and build their capacities.
Journey So far:
Our journey began in one of the myriad urban slums of Delhi – near ITO. Storytelling sessions were our way of engaging children, followed by theatre and awareness campaigns with a simple objective to ensure regular school attendance by the children. A bigger challenge, however, and so inextricably linked, was the unsafe environment around, where drinking in the open was a common occurrence. Our priority in parallel was to ensure safe living for the children and a sustainable economic structure.
From 10 – 15 children in our classroom to 50 and the present 83. Our circle of priority grew larger and beyond education to include empowering the community where the children lived, the family’s involvement, their financial and healthy well-being and the juggernaut rolled on.
The reality of underprivileged children in the country
Underprivileged children miss out on every opportunity to live a nourishing childhood, mentally, emotionally, and physically. Less than half of children between the ages of 6 and 14 go to school in the country. As these children grow, they are less likely to support themselves fully or become contributing citizens to the country. The lack of education will inevitably set them on the path towards poverty and even crime.
How you can contribute to a brighter future for these children
You can donate essential education items such as Tab , Story Books, stationery, school bags for these underprivileged children.
A small contribution from you today can make a big difference to their future tomorrow.
We are looking forward to your kind Support!
