Help The Pure Devotion Foundation Feed Fresh Meals To Pilgrims During Kanwar Yatra
Project
The Kaavand, also known as the Kanwar Yatra, is an annual pilgrimage dedicated to Lord Shiva that takes place in the sacred month of Shravan (Saavan), which typically falls between July and August in the Hindu calendar. Countless devotees embark on this revered journey and seek blessings from the Almighty.
Chants of Har Har Mahadev resound in the skies, and the atmosphere is filled with devotion
The pilgrimage begins at the holy sites of Gomukh or Gangotri, where devotees collect the sacred water of the Ganges in small pots. They then carry this water over long distances, ultimately offering it to Lord Shiva at Neelkanth in Rishikesh. The kavad or kanwar is a pole of bamboo with two water pots tied on either side. This is kept on the shoulder as the devotees walk toward their destination, singing bhajans and chanting the name of Lord Shiva. These devotees are called Kanwariyas.
Historically, this yatra was undertaken by saints and sages. Over time, it evolved to include elderly individuals who made the pilgrimage annually. Today, the Kanwar Yatra sees participation from hundreds of thousands of people, spanning all age groups and including men, women, and even children. Pilgrims come from various states such as Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Rajasthan, Punjab, Bihar, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, and Madhya Pradesh.
Kanwar Yatra is one of the largest yatra that takes place in India, with over 10 million pilgrims coming together to pay their homage to the Almighty. In their long, devotional journey, they get tired and hungry without access to proper food and water. The Pure Devotion Foundation wants to ensure that these devotees have fresh meals and clean drinking water to sustain them on this holy journey.
“Despite the journey being a difficult one, it is wonderful to see so many people come together to pay your respects. We want to do everything in our power to feed them nourishing food. Your kindness will really make a difference,” - Sundar Prabhuji.
