Support These Abandoned Elderly, Help Harsh Give Them A Safe Home During Their Final Years

Harsh, the founder of Sarthak Prayas, has always been passionate about social causes. His journey began with a simple yet life-saving initiative - a blood donation drive - after witnessing two of his relatives struggle every month to find donors for their battle with thalassemia.

It was the first step toward something much bigger, something that would define his life’s purpose

Deeply influenced by the values instilled in him by his grandparents, Harsh always dreamed of helping the elderly. Yet, like many who dream big, he lacked the financial means to make it a reality. Years went by, but finally, on August 15, 2015, that dream materialized into something beautiful - an old-age home named Second Innings.

‘The name just felt right,’ Harsh recalls. ‘I was watching Lage Raho Munna Bhai, and it struck me - these elders deserve a second innings, a chance to live again.’

This isn’t just a shelter; it’s a home where every elder is seen, heard, and loved

Seema and Harsh managed everything with love, ensuring that every elder felt cared for and valued. They were more than a caregiver - they were their daughter, their family. Harsh and Seema became the children of those abandoned by their own blood, proving that family isn’t defined by blood, but by love that never walks away. 

Over the years, the home has been witness to stories that break hearts yet reaffirm faith in humanity.

Paralyzed in an accident, they fulfilled the rickshaw driver’s final wish

There was the rickshaw driver from Chandni Chowk, who spent 30 years ferrying people through the bustling streets, sweating and labouring for his family. During monsoons, when he was electrocuted and paralyzed, they discarded him within 48 hours.

‘Not even a single day went by when he didn’t cry,’ Harsh remembers. ‘He kept asking - who was I earning for these past 30 years, if my own family threw me out when I needed them?’

For over 2 years, he lived at Second Innings, his heart heavy with sorrow. Yet, in his final moments, his wish was simple - to eat Nataraj ke Dahi Bhalle and Tikke one last time. Harsh made sure his wish was fulfilled but before passing, he made a final request that shook Harsh to the core.

‘Will you do my last rites, Harsh? You are more of a son to me than my own.’

Then there was Baba, a blind old man who had no means to get his eyesight restored. Sarthak Prayas arranged for a free surgery, and when he opened his eyes again, he sobbed.

He held my hands and said, ‘I can finally see you, beta. You brought back my world,’ Harsh shares.

Today, 18 elders call Second Innings home. They live free of cost with dignity and care. Neither Harsh, Seema, nor their dedicated team take a salary. Their work is purely driven by love, by a belief that no one should have to live or die alone.

These elders once had families, homes, and dreams. They spent their lives caring for others, only to be left abandoned in their weakest moments. At Second Innings, they have found a new family. They have found dignity and love. Now, they need you.
