Stand By Naushad, Support 110+ Abandoned Elders Live A Life Of Dignity
Project
“One parent can raise ten children with love and sacrifice, yet ten children struggle to care for even one parent in their final days."
Naushad was just 30 when he witnessed something heartbreaking—his own neighbours, the aunt and uncle who once cared for him like their own child, were being thrown out of their home by their son and daughter-in-law.
He watched them struggle on the streets, helpless and alone. Childhood memories of sitting in their laps came flooding back. The pain was too much to bear. He knew he had to do something.
In 2006, with nothing but compassion and a small piece of his own land in Dhanbad, Naushad and a few close friends built a humble shelter. That’s how Lal Mani Vridashram—Jharkhand’s first old age home—was born, starting with just two abandoned elders.
Today, Naushad is like a son to over 110 elderly people who were left behind by the very children they once raised with love.
For every elder he took in, more were left outside by the children they raised
The more Naushad opened his doors, the more elderly parents were left outside—abandoned in the dead of night or broad daylight, with nothing but heartbreak. Some waited for their children to return, whispering their names. None ever did.
Today, 20 elders lie in hospital beds with mounting bills. The ashram often survives on just roti and pickles. Yet, these elders stay strong—because they’ve found a family in each other and in Naushad, the son who never left.
Beside him stands his wife, the silent strength behind it all. While Naushad built a shelter, she built a home—feeding every elder with the same love she gives their children. In return, the elders became grandparents to their kids.
Each elder reminds him of the father he lost young. Maybe that’s why he loves and serves them like his own.
Some days, all he wishes for is a full meal for his family of forgotten parents
In a world where so many children walk away from their ageing parents, Naushad never does. He held their trembling hands in their final moments, stood by their pyres when no one else did. Stand by Naushad. Help him care for the abandoned elders who have no one else. Contribute towards their food, medicines, and basic needs.
About the NGO:
Lal Mani Vriddh Ashram is Jharkhand’s first old age home, founded by Naushad in 2006 to care for abandoned elderly people who have no one left. What began with just two elders on a small piece of land has now become a home for over 110+ senior citizens who were left behind by their families. Naushad and his wife care for these elders like their own parents—providing food, shelter, medical support, and love. The ashram runs purely on kindness and contributions from people like you.
