Gopalan Is Their Only Family, Help Him Care for 300+ Abandoned Elders
Project
For 20 years, Gopalan has been a lifeline for abandoned elderly people—those who were once pillars of their families but were later left with no one. Today, he cares for over 300 helpless senior citizens, offering them not just shelter but the love of a family they lost.
"Parents spend their whole lives working hard for their children, making sacrifices so they can have a better future. But when these parents grow old and weak, many are left all alone. Is this the life they deserve?" — Gopalan, Founder, Akshaya Trust
A Home That Heals, A Family That Cares
In 2001, Gopalan started Akshaya Trust to ensure that no elderly person has to suffer in loneliness. Over the years, he has taken in hundreds of abandoned seniors across Chennai—giving them a home in Mudichur, Pallikaranai, Valasaravakkam, Pallavakkam, and Velapanchavadi.
Many of these elders arrive with nothing. Some are too weak to walk, others are struggling with illnesses, and most are carrying the pain of being left behind. But here, they finally find kindness.
At Akshaya Trust, they are given a warm bed, fresh meals, and medical care. More than that, they find a place where they are loved. They are no longer unwanted. They are family.
But This Family is Struggling to Survive
"I made a promise to them—I will take care of you. But now, I am struggling. Without help, I cannot give them the food they need to survive."
Gopalan is doing everything he can, but it is getting harder to provide for so many elders. They urgently need grocery kits to continue serving meals to 300+ seniors who have nowhere else to go.
Will you help? Your support can ensure that these elders receive the nourishment and care they deserve in their final years. A simple act of kindness can make all the difference.
Donate now to give them the dignity, love, and comfort they should never have lost.
