Thousands Of Sadhus Are Struggling To Survive This Winter, Help Them Stay Warm

Many say that the winters are the best time to visit the holy cities of Ayodhya and Varanasi. These popular pilgrimage destinations see thousands of people visiting during these months to experience the history, culture and heritage of these cities amidst the cool weather.

However, what we often tend to forget is that while the winter months might be the favourite time of the year for some, there are thousands of people on the streets of Ayodhya and Varanasi who are struggling to survive. Among these are countless sadhus who call these holy cities their home.

The Winter Months Are The Most Difficult For Them

Sadhus have renounced all worldly pleasures and spend every day dedicated to prayer and service. Their selflessness and devotion are well known by all, but what we don’t see is their fight to survive. On the streets of Ayodhya and Varanasi, these sadhus have to brave the cold, rain, sun and everything that comes their way. Poor living conditions, starvation, lack of access to even the basic necessities and the pandemic have left them facing challenges every single day.

They often fall sick and are left to fend for themselves. They have no one to turn to, they depend on the kindness of others to survive. With the temperatures dropping, many sadhus are currently on the streets of these cities with no warmth or protection. Donatekart along with our partner NGOs are determined to help them this winter. However, we can’t do it without your support.

You can help by donating winter clothes for sadhus in Ayodhya and Varanasi and make sure they are safe and protected from the cold this winter. These winter clothes will keep them warm and save them from getting serious illnesses. Your contribution can save their lives.

1. Hope Welfare Trust: An initiative by youngsters with a will to bring about a change in society, especially in rural India, Hope Welfare Trust started as a nascent movement in Varanasi in September 2015. A few students from various universities and colleges joined hands with the aim to bring about sustainable development in rural Indian villages. Today they have helped thousands of people in need, along with supporting sadhus during the pandemic.

2. Shivdham Trust: For the last 5 years, Sanjay Pathak has been working to give the sadhus and others in need a better and more comfortable life through his organisation Shivdham Trust. He feeds over 150 hungry sadhus every day. With your help, he can reach out to many more who require support.
