    Project

Janmashtami, the joyous celebration of Lord Krishna's birth, is marked by worshiping the idol of Bal Gopal, representing Krishna's childhood. Devotees believe that worshipping Laddu Gopal brings joy, prosperity, and harmony into their lives. While this festival is celebrated with great excitement across the country, Nitaben from Bhuj, Gujarat, has found a unique way to honour this special occasion.

Every year, during Janmashtami, Nitaben spreads the joy of the festival by distributing milk, sweets, and clothes to over 300 children living in slums in Bhuj. This year, she continues this heartfelt tradition, and you have the opportunity to be part of this special celebration.

“For me, these little children are the incarnations of Lord Krishna, and feeding them is my way of serving God. When I see them happy and content, I feel that this is the most meaningful worship I could ever offer,” shares Nita Thakkar, Founder of Saheli Mahila Sangatan.

For the last 6 years, Nitaben has been a beacon of hope to 300+ poor kids

In 2017, Nitaben founded an organization in Bhuj, Gujarat, after witnessing the harsh realities faced by families and children living in the slums. For the past 6 years, she and her group of dedicated women, her Sahelis, have been on a mission to empower women and children from these vulnerable communities

When we first visited the slums, what we saw was heart-wrenching. The women were struggling to keep their families together while their husbands, often addicts, were unable to work. But it was the children who suffered the most. They were left with nothing but dry chapatis for days. Seeing their pain, I knew I had to do something, and that’s how our Sangatan was born.”

Every morning, Nitaben and her Sahelis start cooking and preparing wholesome meals like chana, dal dhoklis, and other Gujarati dishes. By 6 AM, the food is ready to be delivered to the slums. Nitaben takes immense pride in knowing that, for the past 6 years, they’ve been feeding over 300 children daily.

There’s nothing more rewarding than seeing those kids finish their meals and ask for more,” Nitaben says. “These children have faced so much—malnutrition, illness, neglect. If my efforts can bring them even a little bit of happiness, I’m ready to do this for the rest of my life.”

This Janmashtami, help Nitaben distribute milk and sweets to hundreds of little children

Together with her Sahelis, Nitaben plans to distribute milk, sweets, and new clothes to over 300 underprivileged children in the slums of Bhuj. Your generous contribution can light up their faces and make this festive day truly special. Let's celebrate the spirit of Janmashtami by sharing love and hope with those who need it the most.
