Many Children Don’t Survive Rajasthan’s Winter. This Winter, Donate A Blanket
Project
Winter in the deserts of West Rajasthan is harsh, silent, and unforgiving. As the temperature drops, children from nomadic and denotified communities are the first to suffer. Their feet crack as they walk on freezing sand, their hands turn stiff, and their small bodies tremble through the long, bitter nights. What looks like an endless, beautiful desert to outsiders becomes a place where children are simply trying to get through the next cold wave.
“When the desert turns cold, the first cry we hear is always from a child,” says Bax Ji, founder of Gunsar Lok Sangeet Sansthan, Jaisalmer.
Homes That Can’t Keep Out the Cold
Most families live in fragile huts made of cloth sheets, plastic covers, or mud. These structures cannot block the icy wind that sweeps through at night. Inside, children curl up under thin sarees or torn blankets, hoping the night will pass quickly. Many fall sick every winter, their bodies too weak to fight the constant chill.
“Some children sleep with their legs pulled close to their chest, not because they are comfortable, but because it’s the only way to feel a little warm,” Bax Ji shares.
A Childhood Winter Shouldn’t Look Like This
There are families who sleep under open skies. There are children who walk miles barefoot because they don’t own a single pair of proper shoes. School, play, and rest all get pushed aside when staying warm becomes the main struggle.
“A child should worry about homework, not how to survive the night,” says one volunteer working with the organisation.
Your Warmth Can Change Their Winter
This winter, Gunsar Lok Sangeet Sansthan urgently needs blankets, sweaters, caps, socks, gloves, and shoes for the children they serve. For these kids, a warm sweater is not a luxury, it is protection. A blanket is not just fabric, it is safety.
“We cannot control how cold the desert gets,” says Bax Ji, “but with your help, we can decide how many children stay warm.”
Donate winter essentials and help protect the children of Rajasthan from a winter no child should have to endure.
