India’s manufacturing capital, Chennai, came to a standstill in the last two days and many areas flooded after the southern Indian coast was battered by heavy rainfall overnight. Authorities were forced to issue warnings and evacuate people from low-lying areas. Horrifying images of cars being submerged under water, uprooted trees and people being rescued on rubber boats in various parts of Chennai were seen across social media. The situation is dire and needs immediate attention. 

Major damage has been ravaging the city and the coastal areas of Tamil Nadu The rains in Tamil Nadu have ravaged not just Chennai but the entire state, especially the coastal areas. Areas in North Chennai have been inundated and a few low-lying areas, including Anna Nagar, are now water-logged. The water level has risen by 1.5 feet at Chembarambakkam Lake. A wall collapsed in Cuddalore district due to heavy rains leaving one dead. The heavy rainfall for the last two days has been a reminder of the 2015 floods. “We are all very afraid, we don’t know what is going to happen. All that we had built for ourselves is now gone in the wink of an eye. We have no food, no clothes, nothing with us…” - flood victim.
