Multiple Fractures Haven’t Stopped Sweta From Saving Lives, Help Her Care For 200+ Strays

Feel free to ask Campaigner for a new update on this Fundraiser.

    Project

When she was 15 years old, doctors told Sweta Maurya that her days were numbered. Today, she cares for over 200 voiceless beings in Varanasi. This is not just a mission for her; it’s her life’s purpose.

Sweta has faced unimaginable challenges. She was born with Osteogenesis imperfecta, a genetic bone disorder known as brittle bone syndrome where her bones break very easily. She has endured more than 120 fractures and undergone 13 surgeries. For over twenty years, she has been confined to her bed, unable to sit.

Bleeding wounds, fractures, bone deformities and shortness of breath have become a part of life. But I don’t let them hold me back anymore,” - Sweta Maurya, founder.

Abandoned by her father due to her condition, she faced harsh societal stigma, yet she never lost hope

Giving up was easy for everyone—even my father—but not for me,” Sweta shares. “Society judged me for my appearance and my medical condition, but I decided to carry on. My mother was my pillar of strength.”

In 2012, a heart-wrenching encounter changed her life forever. While browsing social media, she came across a dog brutally beaten by a security guard at a university. That moment ignited a fire within her. Sweta began sharing posts, arranging rescues, and providing food and medical help through her growing network of animal lovers. She didn’t just save that dog; she saved many others—dogs, cattle, donkeys, and more.

In 2016, Sweta founded the Astha Loving Kindness And Compassion (ALKC) Foundation in Varanasi. Despite her health setbacks, she has remained steadfast in her mission.

Cases of animal cruelty and abandonment are all too common. Whenever I hear of an animal in need, I do everything I can to give them a better life. To date, we have saved over 400 animals and currently feed more than 200 dogs, providing for their medical needs and vaccinations.

Sweta dreams of building a permanent home for these animals, but she can’t do it alone

Besides my mother, I have no one to support me. I want to help these animals, but it hurts when I can’t because of money. That pain drives me to keep going.”

A large part of what Sweta earns as a graphic designer is used for her mission - yet it’s not enough. Sweta urgently needs support for construction materials, dog food, and medicines. Your contribution can make a significant difference in her mission. Together, we can help Sweta provide a safe haven for these voiceless animals and ensure they receive the love and care they deserve.
