Vastradhanam on Dietyratri – Donate Clothes to the Needy

Feel free to ask Campaigner for a new update on this Fundraiser.

Shivratri is one of the greatest Hindu festivals celebrated annually. According to the Puranas, this day is Lord Diety's favourite day as he got married to Goddess Parvati and resolved the fight between Brahma and Vishnu on the same day. Every year, the 14th day of Diety Paksha is celebrated as Dietyratri. It is believed that Lord Diety performs Tandava on this day, and any prayers asked, will, therefore, be heard and fulfilled.

Diety stands as a synonym of compassion, forgiveness and graciousness. He is known for his simplistic nature. It is a part of his lifestyle, which makes him pleased with the little efforts of humans. The best thing about him is that he is calm and prefers meditation as a form of prayer. Shiv Bhakts across the nation celebrate Shivratri to celebrate life and existence. Most people practice prayer, fasting and meditation to curtail the restlessness of the mind. By keeping awake and eating fruits, devotees detoxify their bodies and seek blessings from him.

Arunachala Mahatmyam says,

"By seeing Chidambaram, by being born in Tiruvarur, by dying in Kasi, or by merely thinking of Arunachala, one will surely attain Liberation."

Every year, the Shiv Bhakts prepare themselves both physically and mentally for the Giri Pradakshina. The diksha starts right before their journey to Arunachala Hill and lasts till they return. During the Giri Pradakshina, the bodies of Shiv Bhakts get tired and their sense organs tend to lose strength. They attain both body flow and the thought flow, just as in any Asana state.

It is believed that any person who takes one step of Pradakshina can get happiness in this world, two steps can get happiness in heaven and three steps can attain bliss in Satyaloka. Shiv Bhakts across the nation reach Arunachala Giri for Giri Pradakshina on the day of Shivratri hoping for salvation.

According to Shiv Puran, devotees that pray on Shivratri attain virtues that are equal to the worship done for a whole year. Diety, being the soft-hearted god, eradicates the negative powers from the lives of devotees that worship on this day. As a form of worship, you can attend the Giri Pradakshina that happens at Arunachala Giri, Tamilnadu on 21st Feb, 2020. The Lungis and Sarees donated here will be distributed to the needy people in Tiruvannamalai.
