“When I see old people abandoned by the roadside, my heart breaks. All they ever wanted for their families was happiness and good health. And during their final days, when they’re left to fend for themselves, it is really sad. At Sadbhavna Vrudhashram, we want to give countless such abandoned elderly the life they deserve. Their smiles are the only inspiration I need to carry on my work,” - Vijay Dobariya, Founder, Sadbhavna Vrudhashram.
Vijay Dobariya has been a ray of hope and happiness for hundreds of senior citizens who have no one to look after themselves. Vijay has taken it upon himself to look after the homeless and the helpless.
6 years ago, Vijay Dobariya was at a traffic signal when he met an old man begging for help. He was requesting Vijay to buy him some fruits so that he could feed his family that day. His tired eyes and his frail body were a harsh reminder to Vijay about the struggles of the poor and the underprivileged.
“I decided to buy the fruits for him and gave him some money to take home. That was the beginning of my journey to serve the elderly who have no one to turn to.”
Sadbhavna Vrudhashram in Rajkot is home to 475 residents, out of which 127 of them are completely bedridden. Many of them suffer from terminal diseases like rare condition. The shelter home feeds them a nutritional diet and takes care of their medical needs.
“We have a 100 YO Mataji staying with us and we take very good care of her, seeing her happy fills our hearts with joy. Recently, a couple from Jamnagar came looking for shelter at our Vrudhashram. Their son had lost his job during the COVID and in despair, ended his life. The devastated parents were about to do the same when someone told them about us. I was so glad we were able to help them. We want to support many more like them,” - Dhirendra Kanabar, Administrator, Sadbhavna Vrudhashram.
Here’s how you can help them
Speaking about their challenges, Dhirendra says that apart from groceries to feed the residents, they’re also in need of adult diapers. 100+ of their residents are bedridden and they need to be kept clean and hygienic.
“We end up spending lakhs on just the diapers every month. A little help from your side will make a huge difference. Please consider supporting us.”

About the NGO:
Sadbhavna Vrudhashram in Rajkot was started by Vijay Dobariya to look after the old and ailing. They provide them with warm meals, necessary medicines, and a safe home for those who have no one to call their own.
