“The women and children in our country are not safe. It’s a heartbreaking reality we face every day. Right now, the nation is grieving and outraged over the brutal r@pe and murder of a young trainee doctor at R.G. Kar. The public’s anger and demand for justice are powerful, but sadly, her story is not an isolated one. At PARI India, we receive calls every day on our helpline about equally horrific crimes,” says Yogita Bhayana, Founder of PARI India.

These survivors and their families come from some of the poorest backgrounds. They don’t know how to navigate the legal system, and many can’t afford to go to court. Most of the children they work with are from families of daily wage earners. In their darkest hours, PARI India stands by them, helping them through these battles they shouldn’t have to fight alone.

She quit her job to help build a just world for the survivors

In 2002, when Yogita Bhayana was just 22, she had a stable job with a well-known airline. But when she witnessed the tragic death of a hit-and-run victim, leaving behind a grieving wife and children, something changed in her. She quit her job and fought tirelessly for justice. But through this journey, she realized how delayed justice can be an unbearable burden, especially for the poor.

What began in 2007 as a mission to help road accident victims took a bigger turn during the 2012 Nirbhaya case. Yogita’s protests became a powerful force that helped ensure the perpetrators were brought to justice. That’s when she founded PARI India.

PARI is a one-of-a-kind institution in India, fighting against sexual violence, working on prevention, and supporting survivors with psychological counseling

When I hear about r@pes of little children, some as young as four years old, or even a few months old, it breaks me. In the past few days, we’ve supported families of young girls who have suffered unimaginable horrors—brutally assaulted, with their heads smashed and eyes gouged out. I spend nights awake, thinking about how to get justice for them and how to help build a safer world,” Yogita says.

Yogita talks about how authorities make promises in the wake of horrific events but then quickly forget the survivor’s struggles. PARI works endlessly to give a voice to r@pe survivors who can’t speak about their trauma due to social stigma. They also lead programs to end r@pe and victim-blaming, fighting to create real change.

Every 30 minutes a girl under 18 is r@ped in India - Yogita and her team are striving to change the narrative

Right now, PARI is supporting 23+ survivors. They are helping these survivors heal from their trauma, educating them, restoring their hope, and empowering them to rebuild their lives.

Your generous support can make a huge difference in their journey. Rehabilitation, education, therapy, and legal representation all require ongoing help. With your help, Yogita and her team can reach even more survivors in need, giving them a chance at a brighter future. Together, we can change lives and offer hope to those who need it most.

About the NGO: PARI India fights to end sexual violence in India. They support survivors through counseling, advocacy, and prevention programs, especially those silenced by stigma. Their work includes sensitization campaigns to end r@pe culture and victim-blaming. Sexual violence deeply impacts a survivor’s physical, emotional, and mental well-being, and they use various platforms, including social media, to educate and engage the public in this fight.
