Join Manju In Rescuing Young Girls From The Darkness Of Trafficking
Feel free to ask Campaigner for a new update on this Fundraiser.
Female trafficking for sexual exploitation remains one of the major socio-legal challenges in India. Young females, particularly those from socioeconomically disadvantaged backgrounds, are highly vulnerable to this crime. Large numbers of women and children are trafficked annually, with many cases linked to regions experiencing extreme poverty and marginalization. Tribal communities, in particular, have been disproportionately affected, exacerbating existing vulnerabilities. The lucrative nature of human trafficking has enabled the expansion of organized syndicates and independent traffickers, making intervention efforts more complex.
According to India's National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB), over 6,500 human trafficking victims were identified in the country during 2022, with 60% of them being women and girls. Experts suggest that actual figures are significantly higher due to widespread underreporting and systemic gaps in enforcement. Trafficking for commercial sexual exploitation remains a critical human rights issue, necessitating urgent legal and policy interventions. Women and children have the fundamental right to protection from all forms of trafficking and to be treated with dignity.
How Did Guria Swayam Sewa Sansthan Start?
Guria has played a huge role since it started in 1988 when Ajeet adopted three children whose mothers were unable to care for them. This act of intervention laid the groundwork for what would later become a structured effort to combat trafficking and gender-based violence.
A Holistic Approach to Rehabilitation
The foundation operates on the principle that rescue is only the first step in a longer process of reintegration. Survivors receive shelter, education, medical care, legal counselling, and vocational training to facilitate economic independence.
The inclusion of art therapy and counseling ensures psychological rehabilitation, addressing the trauma experienced by these young girls.
Case studies, such as that of Anisha*, illustrate the long-term impact of such interventions. After being trafficked and separated from her family, she was rescued by Guria, provided with education, and now pursues higher studies.
Structural Challenges and the Need for Support
Despite its impact, Guria Foundation faces resource constraints that limit the scale of its interventions. The need for sustainable funding remains critical to expand vocational training programs, provide hygiene kits, and support legal proceedings against traffickers.
Manju, who is like a mother to these girls, emphasizes that while their team fights as though advocating for their own children, systemic change requires collective action. As trafficking remains a global challenge, supporting initiatives like Guria Foundation is essential to ensuring that vulnerable girls receive protection, rehabilitation, and access to justice.
