Dear Donors,
The area of Tirupati city is 16.28 sq. km. There are 42 slums in this small area. Moreover, it is an important city of pilgrims in the country. It has an estimated population of 3.95 lakh as per 2011 census and a floating population of 50,000 per day. Industrialization results in increased urbanization. Accumulation of wealth and the availability of more economic and job opportunities in urban centers led to the concentration of population in congested metropolitan areas and thus the formation and development of large slums.
Many slum populations suffer from basic amenities such as safe drinking water, food, shelter and sanitation, many slum dwellers live in makeshift housing and lack adequate infrastructure. Due to lack of sanitation and proper housing, these communities are more vulnerable, especially women and children, who often suffer from various diseases like dengue fever, malaria and other seasonal diseases. The Wisdom Foundation strives to provide blankets and mosquito nets to vulnerable migrant and slum dwellers, which can protect them from diseases and winters, especially women and children.
