Support Karunashram’s Wildlife Rescue And Rehabilitation Efforts

Karunashram is a wildlife rescue and rehabilitation centre based in Wardha, Maharashtra, working in some of the most challenging rescue situations across the region. Operated by People For Animals Wardha since 1999, the centre responds to injured, abandoned, and distressed animals, including wildlife affected by human animal conflict.

Karunashram depends largely on public support to continue its work. Despite limited resources, the team has treated over 300 animals, including nearly 50 wild species, and focuses on rescue, medical care, rehabilitation, and release back into natural habitats whenever possible.

Karunashram is among the few centres in Central India equipped to handle complex wildlife rescues. The team has rehabilitated endangered pangolins using specialised care practices, treated injured vultures, and safely managed high risk tiger and leopard rescue operations. They also routinely rescue and relocate venomous snakes such as cobras, kraits, vipers, and pythons through trained and humane methods.

The centre is spread across 25 acres, with dedicated space for animal hospitals, enclosures, and rehabilitation areas. In addition to direct rescue work, Karunashram plays an important role in training forest department staff and Rapid Rescue Teams across Vidarbha in safe animal handling and rescue techniques.

Looking ahead, Karunashram aims to expand its medical facilities and enclosures to help more animals in need. However, rising costs for medicines, equipment, and infrastructure make this difficult without donor support.
