Jaggu, a fragile tiger cub, arrived with almost no chance of survival. No protection, no strength, no time to waste. In many such cases, cubs do not survive. The difference between life and death depends on who steps in and how quickly they act.

At Karunashram, the team chose to act.

“If that day I had told myself, this is just part of the process, it does not matter to me, Jaggu would probably not be alive today.”

Where Tiger and Leopard Rescues Turn Critical

Karunashram responds to serious tiger and leopard rescue cases across the region. These include injured adults, orphaned cubs, snare and trap wounds, highway injuries, and high tension conflict situations near villages.

Big cat rescues are complex. They need trained teams, correct tranquilization methods, secure transport, medical support, and safe rehabilitation spaces. One wrong move can cost an animal its life.

Even with limited resources and no assured funding, the center continues to take on these high risk operations because there is often nowhere else for these animals to go.

Built on Commitment, Not Comfort

Founded in 1999 and operated by People For Animals Wardha, Karunashram is a wildlife rescue and rehabilitation center in Maharashtra. It is not a large, well funded institution. It is a working rescue base built on field experience, skill, and commitment.

The 25 acre campus includes treatment areas, rehab zones, and protected enclosures. The center is approved by the Central Zoo Authority and focuses on rescue, treatment, rehabilitation, and release wherever possible.

The team also trains forest staff and rapid response units in safe tiger and leopard handling, helping improve rescue outcomes across the region.
