Every year during the holy month of Ramadan, Muslims around the world observe fasting as a way of showing gratitude to God. Alongside this spiritual practice comes a fundamental tenet of Islam where the fortunate are encouraged to give back to the less fortunate.
In the heart of Delhi and NCR's bustling slums, where poverty grips the lives of countless families, there shines a beacon of hope: Voice of Slum. Led by the compassionate souls Dev and Chandni, Voice of Slum has been tirelessly serving the underprivileged children in Noida's slums for years. This year too, they’re determined to feed countless children in these slums as they break their fast during the sunset each day.
Both Dev and Chandni had to go through several hardships. Abusive parents, pangs of hunger, forced beggary on the streets of Delhi, and even a fortnight in a juvenile correctional home - but none of these could dim the spirit of this duo. They took their struggles in their stride and decided to do something for other kids who are now living in similar circumstances.
Their NGO works towards imparting education to slum kids, training slum teenagers on vocational skills thus helping them fit in the mainstream society. They have already transformed the lives of over 825 children, providing them with education, meals, and hope for a brighter tomorrow.
“Ramadan and Eid bring happiness and joy. These are times one wishes to celebrate with their loved ones - enjoy their mother’s cooking, listen to their father’s stories….Unfortunately, the kids we work with are not so lucky. Some of them are orphans while others have sick or abusive parents. They hardly get to eat daily and often go to the garbage dump to find something, rotten and old, to fill their stomach,” - Dev Pratap Singh, Co-Founder, of Voice of Slum.

About the NGO: Chandni and Dev Pratap founded Voice of Slum in 2016, driven by their own experiences growing up in a slum. They understand the struggles and hardships that come with such living conditions, and they don't want other children to miss out on the childhood they deserve. Their empathy and motivation to make a difference in the lives of others inspired them to create Voice Voice of Slum. The NGO is dedicated to providing slum children with education and employment opportunities so they can reach their full potential. Their mission is to empower these children and give them the opportunities they deserve. Starting in a small hut with just a few children, the organization has grown to empower hundreds of children in the slums of Noida.
