They say that one moment can change your life forever. And Nilay Agarwal experienced an unbearable loss in 2018 that forever changed the course of his life. One of the biggest lessons he learnt? There’s no better day than today to make a difference.
“The pandemic taught us that life is unpredictable, but I learnt this a few years ago when I lost a close friend to a gruesome accident. She had her whole life ahead of her, and in seconds, she was gone. A Mission To Uplift The Underprivileged
Started in 2019, Vishalakshi Foundation works with the aim to eradicate hunger and promote literacy. Nilay believes that everyone deserves access to good healthcare, food, education and a life of respect and dignity.
Today, Vishalakshi Foundation has around 3000 volunteers across ten cities in India. They have so far created an impact in Delhi, Gurgaon, Noida, Lucknow, Banda, Amroha, Fatehpur, Ranchi, Jaipur and Mumbai by giving free meals, free ration kits, dental check-ups, counselling sessions, blood donations and free education to children. They also have 4 schools in Gurgaon and Lucknow through which they support the education of 300 slum children.
“We have helped around 45000+ families so far, but we know that’s not enough. We’re determined to do so much more. When the pandemic began last year we knew we couldn’t leave any stone unturned.”
Efforts During The Pandemic
During the first wave, Nilay and the team at Vishalakshi Foundation distributed over 25,000 food packets to migrant workers. Now, during the second wave, they’ve doubled their efforts and reached out to more people. While they give free meals to the underprivileged in cities like Ranchi and Lucknow every weekend, they’re serving 500 people every day in Gurgaon.
“Hunger is one of the biggest issues right now, even more than it was before the pandemic. So many people have lost their jobs, their loved ones.... These people come from low income backgrounds and have no way to survive this crisis. We want to continue feeding people every day in Gurgaon, but we can’t do it without your help.”

About the NGO:
Based in Lucknow, it was established in January 2019 by Nilay Agarwal, a philanthropist, with the insight of setting up a dream society where everyone enjoys basic right to education, food, good health, respect and dignity. It aims to serve the unprivileged portion of the society by providing basic amenities of life and instilling in them the zeal to dream big.
