350+ Transgenders Can Live A Life Of Dignity Thanks To Vidya’s Tireless Efforts
Project
“It is the worst feeling in the world when your own family is ashamed of you. When they don’t understand you and reject you for who you are. I know that pain and I don’t want anyone to go through that ever again. I have taken on the responsibility of my brothers and sisters from the trans community and would work till my last breath for them,” - Vidya Rajput, President, Mitwa Sankalp Samiti.
Born as a man, Vidya desperately wanted a different life - a life in which she could be a woman, talk like one, and dress like one without anyone making fun of her. But that was not going to happen so easily. The trans community faces discrimination at every step of their lives. Even getting the basic necessities becomes an arduous task for them. With no job opportunities, most of them are forced to beg at the traffic signals or into s*x work. Vidya chose to break this pattern and embarked on the difficult path. She followed her aspirations and today she is the role model to the 4.8 million Indians who identify themselves as transgenders. This is Vidya’s story.
Her life has been hard but she never gave up hope
“Life isn’t easy, but I have always had the support of my friends from the trans community who told me that I could do what I wanted. Ambitious as I was, I completed my education and got a job in the private sector but I wanted to help people in need. Be the support to others who haven’t been lucky like me.”
And that was the start of Mitwa Sankalp Sansthan in the year 2009, which primarily aimed at uplifting the members of the LGBTQIA community. She has been working actively in sensitizing people about her community and helping them get into mainstream jobs like that in the police force, administrative jobs, etc. She is also part of the Welfare Board for the Third Gender in the Chhattisgarh government.
“People expect us to beg on the roads and fill our stomachs but I want to show the world that we are so much more than that! With the help of my organisation, so many trans athletes have got a chance to showcase their talents, they’re living their dreams and I want to help many more.”
Your support will make a difference
The ones on the margins of society often face so many more challenges. The trans community forms a major section of that group - they have been struggling for basic amenities like food and shelter. Vidya has been working very hard to help them.
“Most of them don’t have a fixed source of income. It is heartbreaking to see them struggle for two square meals a day or a roof over their heads. I have been doing as much as I can but with your help, I am sure I can reach out to many more. Please support me.”
Donate groceries and help Vidya feed 350 people from the trans community. Even a small contribution will go a long way.
