You Can Help Ramesh Provide Grocery Kits To 4000+ Taxi Drivers In Hyderabad 

“Each day when I go back home without any money in my pocket, the hungry eyes of my children seem to haunt me. My wife understands me and keeps quiet but I can’t tell you how frustrating it is for me. I don’t know how long I can continue like this,” - an aggrieved taxi driver from Hyderabad. 

The Taxi Drivers Welfare Association, Hyderabad is working day and night to help these struggling drivers who are in no position to even feed their families. They are skipping so that they can feed their kids but in vain. The Association wants to distribute grocery kits to help them survive. 

The plight of the taxi drivers 

There are about 4000 cab drivers in Hyderabad. And most of them have a similar story to share. For the last one year, the pandemic has ravaged their lives. So many of them had bought the cabs on loan from private lenders and now with no income they’re at a loss. They don’t know how they can repay the huge debts - they’re worried that their family would die of starvation. 

“Their condition is horrible. It can’t be explained in words. Each day we hear of cases where the drivers aren’t informed that the customers are COVID-positive and in turn, they get the infection. With no money in their pockets, so many of them haven’t been able to get treated and have succumbed to the disease. More often than not they are the sole earning members of the family...you can imagine what the family must be going through now, both financially and emotionally…” - Ramesh, member of the Taxi Drivers Welfare Association, Hyderabad. 

They need your help urgently

Owing to the pandemic, people have been working from home and as a result, the cab drivers haven’t had any steady income. High diesel rates and increased percentage of share from Uber and Ola has also hit their businesses badly. With no income at all, so many taxi drivers in Hyderabad have been forced to end their lives. 

“Right now, the need of the hour is that of grocery. We are trying to reach out to as many people as possible but we need your help. There are many who are starving and their families are on the verge of death. Please help these drivers,” - Ramesh.
