Support Shivaprakash, A Visually-Impaired Hero Working To Support 50+ Blind Girls

Feel free to ask Campaigner for a new update on this Fundraiser.

Story of the changemaker

Shivprakash was only 8 years old when he lost his vision due to an untraditional method of eye treatment. The sudden darkness changed his life forever, but it also ignited a purpose within him. Witnessing the struggles that followed, especially the harsher realities faced by visually impaired girls, he wanted to bring change where it was most needed.

My parents believed blindness was a curse. And for blind girls around me, life was even harder. They were vulnerable and often left powerless. Boys at least had the chance to step outside and study, but girls were denied those opportunities in the name of safety. After completing my studies, I started this trust to give them the dignity, resources, and chances they are so often denied.- Shivaprakash, founder

Impacted More Than a Thousand Lives

Divya Jyothi Charitable Trust was established in 2010 and has since empowered more than 1,000 visually impaired girls to become educated, independent, and self-reliant. The trust runs a computer training centre, a Braille transcription centre, and a residential hostel for college-going visually impaired girls.

Along with education and skill training, the girls are encouraged to participate in cultural activities and sports. Currently, 50 girls from below-poverty-line families live at the hostel, where they receive the support and resources needed to build a secure and independent future.

Divya Jyothi Fuels Their Dreams

“Our team visits nearby rural villages to find girls who need our support. The main challenge is to convince the parents and win their trust. After all, they want their girls to be safe. So we plan visits, and once they see the facility and the potential their girls can achieve, they happily send their daughters here.” - Shivaprakash, founder

Every girl here carries a dream of her own. Akshata hopes to open a bakery, Sahana wants to teach self-defense, Anitha dreams of publishing children’s books, Renuka aspires to become a physiotherapist and help children like herself, and Nagaveni wants to start a small business to empower more women like her. Divya Jyothi fuels their dreams, by providing them all the training and resources they need to achieve what they want.

Your Support Can Help Them

“We don’t take a single penny from these girls. Our aim is to give them everything they need to study, grow, and live with dignity. But running the trust from a rented building limits how many girls we can support and drains funds that should be going directly to them. We dream of building our own residential space, where we can welcome more visually impaired girls and support them without fear of displacement.” - Shivaprakash

At Divya Jyothi Charitable Trust, the girls receive nutritious food, clothing, sanitary products, stationery, and all the tools they need to pursue their education and dreams. They are guided with placements, taught essential life skills, and supported every step of the way to become confident and independent.

Your support can help Shivaprakash nurture these dreams and build a permanent space that is always open to visually impaired girls who need safety, care, and opportunity.
