Help Hundreds of People Regain Mobility and Confidence, Donate a Wheelchair Now
Project
Imagine waking up one day and realizing you can’t move. You can’t walk, stand, or even sit on your own. Every little movement depends on someone else. Life as you knew it is gone.
Kantharaj Nayak, a former state-level volleyball player, never imagined that a simple fall while working as an arecanut plucker would leave him paralysed. His family spent everything they had on treatment, but nothing seemed to help—until they found APD’s Spinal Injuries Centre. There, he didn’t just receive therapy—he found hope.
For thousands like Kantharaj, a wheelchair is not just a chair. It’s freedom. It means going outside, making friends, and regaining independence. It means dignity and a chance to live life on their own terms.
Shreya’s Story - From Isolation to Independence
Born with Spina Bifida, little Shreya spent years confined to her home. Her parents carried her everywhere, hoping for a miracle. But hospital visits drained their savings and left them with nothing but false hope.
Then, a neighbour told them about APD (Association of People with Dis@bility), a Bangalore-based NGO dedicated to helping people with special needs. They took Shreya in, provided her with physiotherapy, and gave her a customized wheelchair.
In just five months, her life transformed. For the first time, she could move on her own. Today, she goes to school, makes friends, and smiles with confidence.
But Now, APD Needs Your Help
Since 1959, APD has provided over 8,000 wheelchairs, each customized to fit the unique needs of a specially-abled person. Every year, they make 600 wheelchairs, but it’s still not enough—thousands are still waiting.
Now, they’re struggling. They don’t have the funds to make more wheelchairs. They are also in need of groceries that will help them provide nutritious meals during mid-day meals.
Your generosity can change that. You can give someone like Kantharaj or Shreya the chance to move, dream, and live again.About the NGO: Founded in 1959, the Association of People with Dis@bility (APD) has been transforming lives in Bangalore by empowering underprivileged people with special needs. From rehabilitation to training and awareness programs, APD helps them lead a life of dignity and independence. So far, they’ve provided over 5,000 wheelchairs—one step closer to a world where every person with special needs can live the life they dream of.
