There are so many stories of the unimaginable pain that stray animals in India go through. Some are all skin and bones due to lack of food and water, some lay helpless on the road with big rare conditions on their body, some are abused by us humans, victims of accidents…one can go on and on about their suffering.
Animal rescuers and activists are a ray of hope for these voiceless beings, and Smite Mire is one of them. She has spent years dedicated to the cause of helping injured, abandoned and sick animals. Her NGO, Save Speechless Organisation, is home to several animals in need. Love, kindness, respect and care - form the core of the shelter.
Despite Challenges, Smita & Team Do The Best They Can
Smita started her rescues way back in 2013, while she was juggling her tour and travel agency. She has always wanted to do something for the speechless and the voiceless. But soon, she figured that simply rescuing these animals in danger is not enough. Many of them die while they’re being shifted to other places or due to lack of medical facilities. That’s when she decided to start with her shelter home in Hazari Pahad in Nagpur.
Smita gets a number of calls to take care of abandoned animals every day. However, the challenges are plenty.
“Every season is a challenge for us. Since our shelter is in a rented place, we can’t find permanent solutions to this. In monsoon, the whole place is filled with water and there’s no way to reach the shelter. Bringing injured dogs to the shelter or taking them to the clinic is a task. We have to make so many arrangements keeping all of this in mind. Our daily expenses are also often difficult to manage - rent, medicines, dog food, vet fees, rescue van expenses and a lot more” - Smita Mire, Founder, Save Speechless Organisation
Despite all the challenges, Smita never stops doing the best she can for these animals. They currently have more than 150 reduced dogs, with more and more people calling in for help every day. Smita is struggling to look after these voiceless souls on her own now and needs your support to continue her selfless work.

About the NGO:
Started by Smita Mire in Nagpur, Save Speechless Organisation looks after 150 dogs in its shelter and does regular rescues of abandoned, sick and injured animals. An animal lover at heart, Smita has dedicated her life to this cause. Her team of volunteers does an incredible job of supporting her in this cause.
