Story of the changemaker
“I was passing a crematorium when I saw three young children sitting outside. It was an unusual sight. I waited for a while to see if someone would come take the children home, but no one showed up. The three of them had been orphaned and abandoned, with not a single person to call their own. That was the moment I woke up to the harsh reality of the plight of countless children in this country. They deserve a good life, and I was determined to ensure they get the best care.” - Ganesh Dalvi, Founder, Sai Ashraya OrphanageGanesh Dalvi started Sai Ashraya Orphanage in 2013 in Shirdi, Maharashtra and continues to care for abandoned children, senior citizens and even women today. They’ve given hundreds a safe and secure home for years now. A Place The Helpless Can Call HomeA believer of Sai Baba of Shirdi, Ganesh Dalvi was a businessman before he gave it all up to work towards the betterment of those in need. Today, Ganesh takes in any child who is orphaned, abandoned or struggles with a disability. He also supports senior citizens and women who have been left to fend for themselves. Sai Ashraya currently has 110 children, 28 senior citizens and 22 women - all of whom have no one else to rely on.
“We’ve seen so many miracles happen here, all because of Sai Baba’s blessings. We’ve seen children overcoming illnesses and learning to manage their disabilities, we’ve seen them grow to be happy and healthy. We give everyone here food, shelter, clothing...all the essentials they need to survive. They have no financial or emotional support, so at Sai Ashraya, they finally have a place they can call home.”
Besides food, shelter and an education, the children at At Sai Ashraya are also taught karate, computer training, yoga and given health check-ups regularly. The senior citizens too are involved in various activities that help them holistically. However, They Face Challenges TodaySai Ashraya depends on the kindness of people to stay afloat and provide the residents here a good and healthy life. Unfortunately, the pandemic has left them helpless. With not many people coming forward to help due to the circumstances, Ganesh is struggling to care for the children and senior citizens at Sai Ashraya.
“I want to give them the life they deserve, but now they’re deprived of even the basics. It’s a struggle to even afford food for everyone now. I need your help to feed the children and senior citizens who depend on us.”How You Can HelpGanesh now needs your help to get grocery kits so they can feed the children, seniors and women at Sai Ashraya three healthy meals every day. This is the need of the hour. Every single resident has been through so much pain and trauma - a safe home and healthy meals will go a long way in helping.
