Support Sahana Charitable Trust’s Efforts To Educate Hundreds Of Visually Impaired Students

Feel free to ask Campaigner for a new update on this Fundraiser.

Project

People with disabilities not only have to overcome physical challenges but also struggle every single day to fight stigma and discrimination, get access to basic essentials and public places, get an education, and much much more. For those who come from lower economic backgrounds, their struggles are only increased.

There are over 62 million people in India who are visually impaired, of which 8 million are visually challenged. People with visual impairments have no option but to overcome several hurdles just to make it through the day, let alone earn a livelihood. They deserve to have opportunities just like everyone else.

Sahana Charitable Trust Has Been Impacting Lives For Decades

Started in 2003, Sahana Charitable Trust in Bangalore, Karnataka is an NGO working towards the betterment of those who are visually challenged. Their aim is to help them get an education and create an obstacle-free environment where they’re able to realize their academic dreams with ease and pride.

Along with a school for the visually challenged, Sahana Charitable Trust also has a hostel for visually impaired female students where they’re given free accommodation, food, textbooks and other essentials. These students are looked after with utmost care and are given the opportunities they would otherwise be denied.

The NGO’s Braille Transcription Unit is manned by staff, 70% of whom are visually impaired. At the printing center, they produce and circulate books in braille ranging from lower classes to the post-graduation level and above. They print over 600 sets of braille books and distribute them free of cost to visually impaired students in Karnataka.

They Now Need Your Support To Educate More Children

While Sahana Charitable Trust has been working relentlessly to help as many visually impaired people as possible, they now need your support to reach out to more. The pandemic has left them struggling to get by with dwindling donations, you can now help them get back on their feet again and continue their efforts.

You can donate the raw materials needed for them to print the braille books which they can then distribute to people across Karnataka. Your contribution will truly change the futures of many people with visual impairment and give them hope again.
