With Your Support, Smita Will Be Able To Afford Food And Medicines For Hundreds Of Dogs In Her Shelter

“It was 2 am in the morning when we got a call - a dog was hit by a truck and was dragging herself on the road, not allowing anyone to touch her because she was in so much pain. We immediately left to save her and after trying very hard we could catch her and take her to the vet. But all this while, she wasn’t eating or making any efforts, we were worried. Finally the vet told us that she is a lactating mother - that she is worrying for her pups,” - Smita Mire, founder of Save Speechless Organisation in Nagpur.

An animal lover by heart, Smita was determined to help the dog. The entire team then went again in search of the puppies and after a lot of hard work, they finally found 20 days old pups. They were tired and exhausted but when they saw the mother smile and start eating after seeing her babies, all their efforts were worth it.

Smita has dedicated her life for the animals - she wants to give them a happy life

Smita started her rescues way back in 2013, while she was juggling her tour and travel agency. She has always wanted to do something for the speechless and the voiceless. But soon, she figured that simply rescuing these animals in danger is not enough. Many of them die while they’re being shifted to other places or due to lack of medical facilities. That’s when she decided to start with her shelter home.

Her shelter home is in Hazari Pahad in Nagpur - a few kilometers away from the main city of Nagpur. Her good work and her determination to save as many animals as possible has earned her popularity. Soon, Smita started getting more and more calls to take care of abandoned animals. 

“I was lucky enough to be joined by a dedicated team of volunteers who work very hard to rescue animals in need and give them a safe place to heal and get better. Because we have space constraints, right now, we are taking only those animals who are sick, abandoned and are in need of immediate care. But in the future, I want to take care of animals on a larger scale - my heart weeps for those who I can’t save,” - Smita.

 

But Smita needs your help now 

Even till 2019, Smita was using up all her income and savings to take care of the shelter. Very recently, they have started depending on donations from others. However, due to the pandemic, the donations started dwindling and it became more and more difficult for Smita to run her shelter home for dogs. 

“As of now we have 128 dogs and the rescue work is ongoing. Every day, we save at least 10-15 animals. The need for dog food and medicines is always there. But it is getting harder for us to continue without any help. If you lend us a helping hand, we would be able to do so much more,” - Smita.

Smita and her volunteers are doing a commendable job in Nagpur to help the sick, injured and abandoned dogs. Your support will make a huge difference. With your support, they will be able to feed the injured animals and help them recover. 

About the NGO: Founded by Smita Mire, Save Speechless Organisation, looks after 128 dogs in its shelter and does regular rescues of abandoned, sick and injured animals. They are based out of Nagpur.
